This training is facilitated by Nancie Payne of Payne & Associates, Inc. for DC Adult Education programs on February 16, 2011, 9:30am-4:30pm.   

Course Description

Transformative learning consists of fundamental methods in which adult learner’s construe, validate and reformulate the meaning of experiences.  The central nature of experience, reflection, and discussion combines with intuitive, creative and emotional processing that fosters the development of higher order thinking skills.  These skills are essential in promoting advancement and success for learners pursuing education, training and employment.  Join Nancie for a day of hands-on processes that construct and establish adult learner foundations for learning.

 

Main Training Objectives:

To understand and utilize the theories of Transformative Learning in adult learning environments to foster higher order thinking skills development and higher levels of achievement.

 

Expected Results for Participants: 

1) Understanding of Transformative Learning and how this adult learning theory can be of benefit within adult education and training settings

2) Techniques and methods for application of Transformative Learning activities within a variety of classroom and individual learning settings to create and foster success in learning environments

 

Training Objectives:

1) Understand Transformative Learning theory as it applies to adult education, family literacy, GED, ESL, and EL Civics learners as well as from the perspective of administrators and counselors/support personnel

2) Learn and practice “real” methods of applying transformative learning approaches to use with adult learners in classroom and training environments

3) Connect transformative learning approaches to higher order thinking skills development, promoting the advancement of success in education, training and workplace environments
